Do you hate when you post a new blog post or want to post the link of a new product on Instagram – and then realize none of the links are clickable? Yup. Me too.
There is a pretty cool site that will help you out with that if you are an Instagram superstar – or plan to be. It is called Link in Profile.
It is pretty simple really: The system gives you a customized link (mine for example is https://linkinprofile.com/theocblog for the next 30 days until my free trial runs out) and you add that link to your IG profile page.
Then, in your posts, you always make sure to type “Link in Profile” to encourage readers to click on your profile where there is a clickable hyperlink.
When a reader clicks the Link in Profile URL from your profile page, they are taken to a page hosted by the Link in Profile peeps that shows your entire IG feed in nice little blocks. In the backend, you can then add the URL of the post, product, or whatever you choose and when the reader clicks the matching image they saw in IG, they are sent to the link you have added!
Pretty nifty really!
I know a lot of IG super users who are constantly changing their daily link in their profile all day long. Kind of tiring. Not to mention that if someone sees an old IG post of yours and tries to click the “link in profile,” they will most likely not end up on the correct link if you have changed it since then.
This service allows you to set that link once, add your links to your custom page, and be done. Anyone who knows me, knows I love the set it and forget it mentality.
The ONLY caveat? It is a paid service. Like $10 a month. Bummer on that. Definitely not for the average IG user. Now, if your IG feed is a huge traffic referrer or the majority of your social media presence resides on Instagram, perhaps this is something you might consider.
In theory, you could also create your very own page similar to this that would cost you nothing if you wan to put in a little work and feel it would be beneficial enough to your business to get a return on that time investment. You have 2 options:
- Create a page on your website that you will have all your IG images listed at.
- Make an HTML table with Images (no captions needed). This part will require a little HTML knowledge. While it does take a little time to understand how the “language” works, it isn’t too bad. If I can do it, most anyone can figure it out too. lol. Here is a pretty simple tutorial. Make sure your images have your specific destination links attached to them so when they are clicked, they are redirected.
- Then, add your website page link to your profile.
The thing to remember if you decide to go the “free” route is that every time you publish an image you wish for people to click through to, you will have to manually go in an update your website page to reflect the new content.
Hence why it is free. 😉
You could also set up an IFTTT recipe to run your IG feed directly to a specific Pinterest board, and then make sure to update the Pinterest image with the specific link each time. Embed that Pinterest board on a page on your website and direct the IG readers to that page. Personally, I would go this route myself to save time and HTML coding.
But you will still have to remember to update those Pinterest links with the correct link each time you post to IG.
Just a couple of options if you feel that IG is your “home away from home.” Definitely a different way to help people click through to see specific posts, products, or whatever URL you are trying to promote.
NOTE: Another new option since this blog post was listed is LinkTree. It is super handy for adding in lots of links and just directing people to that page. There is a free version (which I am trying out) and a paid version which allows you a little more customization.
