Hey guys, today we had a great question from Susan that I thought we would cover in our TBTS Blogging Tips. She wants to know: “How often should I blog?” I get that question a lot. The right answer is, there is no right answer. I know successful bloggers that blog almost everyday, I know other successful bloggers that maybe blog once a week or maybe once every two weeks. The true answer is, it’s whatever is going to work for you, but the key is to be consistent.
You don’t want to do a blog post every single day for two weeks, and then not post again for two months. Keep yourself at a minimum pace always and keep that consistent. Maybe it’s once a week that you’re doing it, if so, keep it at just once a week. If you know that that’s what you can do, wonderful. If you do a couple of extra blog posts throughout the month in addition to that once a week, then that’s perfect, just don’t get your readers used to once a week blog post, and then overwhelm them with a blog post every single day for three weeks. And then don’t do the opposite, get them used to three, four days a week, and then drop off the face of the earth for two to three months. Just keep it consistent. People do not like change.
I’m guessing maybe you are even one of those people. They don’t like change, they don’t like things that are unpredictable. They want to have a routine, things that they’re used to, things that they can trust. They’re going to trust you more if you are consistent and they can depend on you to kind of do what they expect that you’re going to do. If you are going to blog once or twice a week, make sure it’s once or twice a week consistently. Don’t deviate from that because you are creating a community of people that trust you. What do we know? We know people will buy from those they know, like, and trust.
If they become dependent upon you as far as they love to see what new material that you are coming up with on a weekly basis, and then you drop off and they don’t know what happened to you is almost like losing a friend, right? That’s never a good thing. Or if you decide to blog every single day when they are used to less, then they also are very confused about that. The short answer it is, there is no set amount of time as to how often that you have to blog. The real answer to that is be consistent with whatever you choose.
Think about, in your mind, “Okay, if I have a really busy week, or I know that I’m going to be on vacation for a month this summer, what is the minimum amount that I can do?” Stick with that minimum amount and just do that. That’s okay. It doesn’t have to be every single day. Those backlinks take a lot of time to create SEO and do all of those things out in the Google internet search world that they’re going to do. You don’t need to write 1,500 blog posts in a three month time period. It’s not going to increase your rankings probably any faster than if you are doing one blog post a week.
What you want to do is you want to create a community of people that like you, know you, trust you, to give them great information, great tips, and want to hear more of what you say. If you’re writing very single day anyway, it’s almost like overkill. Think about famous movie stars and how we love them until we see them everywhere, and then when we see them everywhere, we hate them, and we want them to go away. Be consistent and make them want more from you. They want to hear more from you the following week, or in a couple of days from now, so keep it to whatever you feel that you can do realistically with your work-life balance. It’s always going to be a challenge for all of us to find time to blog, so keep it as a something that you know that you can accomplish, and stay consistent.
